I used to do some very odd things when my heart was younger. Writing the name of the guy I liked into the streamed up glass in the shower, and then re-tracing it each time. If I’m completely honest, I still do something similar with passwords. Hoping that if I repeat something enough, it may just come true.

My bedtime reading. For the fourth time. Each time I re-read one of the short stories, some other nuance peeks its head out. The short story is something that I will champion from every corner - those five minutes of absolute absorption because you can hold the pages contained in the smallest space between your forefinger and thumb. You know it’s going to be brief so some days you gulp it down, and others you let each word soak you. I could read Dave Eggers for days, upon days, upon days.

I’m not aiming for crystal clear, I think that wanting something that perfect - that transparent - will cause you to miss out on all the colour you can throw at life, and that life can throw at you. All the time. I don’t tend to do things by halves - it’s normally up under the armpits, or not even a toe-dip. And it applies to the big stuff as much as it does the small things, like, how I love to spread Marmite thicker over the crusts of my my toast so that I get to indulge for three mouthfuls and then regulate for two. This picture reminds me of two things. 1. Turning your face up to meet the rain - which is something I strongly adhere to - especially that heavy, hot, fat rain. 2. A conversation I had with a friend about feeling a little out of sorts - I think I said something about her situation being like a snowdome, where her sparks were just nestled, waiting or needing something to come along and shake them up.
